Buying a skateboard

Rule #1

Don’t buy a cheap skateboard. Although it might sound tempting to save a few dollars, these boards are poorly made and will not perform well or last a long time. You are better off buying a good quality new or used board and reselling it on OfferUp or gifting it to someone else if you decide to part with it later.

Rule #2

Try to buy from a local skateboard shop. Local shops support the community and give people a place to go.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:

If you don’t live near a shop, you can check out their website here: PAWNSHOP SKATE CO.

What should I buy?

It’s always better for kids to grow into a skateboard. When a board is too small, people ofter struggle. If you go into a proper skateboard shop you will be able to try different sizes and get professional help with you purchase.

My recommendation:

-Deck
Popsicle shape. Don’t be afraid to get a wider board. The most important thing is finding a wheelbase fits you (The skateshop can help).

-Trucks
Any brand a good shop carries will work.

-Bearings
Bones Reds are good.
(If you go with something different make sure they have removable shields)

-Wheels
Bones X or Street Formula and Spitfire are the top brands but any brand will work. Just make sure that its a street wheel and the contact surface is smooth.
(Hardness at least 97 or higher unless it’s a hybrid wheel)
Size (52mm-55mm)
